Unlike traditional music or entertainment-based baby classes, What2DoBaby offers a therapeutically informed, educational approach to infant motor skills. Led by Nana Sue, a Swedish pediatric musculoskeletal specialist with over 35 years of clinical experience, our classes in Chelsea focus on structured guidance, proactive play, and building a foundation for healthy neurological and physical development. It is expert-led milestone support presented as joyful play, bridging the gap between recreation and clinical occupational therapy.
Dynamic Symmetry is our proprietary educational methodology that utilizes balanced, bilateral movement exercises to strengthen the brain-body connection in infants. Clinical research indicates that dynamic symmetry is a critical marker for healthy development. By promoting symmetrical movement through guided play, we help babies achieve natural milestones—like rolling, sitting, and crawling—with confidence and biomechanical efficiency, often reducing parental anxiety.
It is incredibly common for infants to resist tummy time, but this frustration often stems from how they are positioned, underlying asymmetric strength, or other physical factors making the posture uncomfortable. In our sessions, we teach you exactly how to properly place your baby to make tummy time a comfortable, engaging experience. We can also help identify specific challenge areas that might be causing their resistance in the first place. Whether your baby hates tummy time or is taking a bit longer to roll and crawl, we provide additional, gentle movement exercises to strengthen their core and neck muscles to help them navigate their unique developmental timeline naturally.
Our group baby mobility and movement classes are centrally located at Chelsea Forest Play in Manhattan, easily accessible from the Flatiron District, West Village, Tribeca, and surrounding NYC neighborhoods. We offer a cozy, sanitized environment specifically designed to encourage independent infant exploration.
We understand the unpredictable nature of parenting an infant. While we offer structured programming to ensure developmental progress, we provide highly flexible booking options. This includes single drop-in classes and tailored class packages, allowing you to access expert mobility guidance on a schedule that works seamlessly for your family.
While our group classes provide vital socialization and general developmental guidance, private milestone coaching offers bespoke coaching and education. During a private session, Nana Sue conducts a comprehensive infant assessment to identify specific biomechanical needs and movement patterns. You will receive a Custom Motor Plan tailored to your baby's stage, delivered via 1:1 in-home coaching across Manhattan or through global virtual consultations.
Absolutely. Our classes are designed to educate and empower whoever is interacting with the child daily. We teach parents, nannies, and caregivers alike the foundational principles of Dynamic Symmetry, ensuring your baby receives consistent, healthy movement support in their home environment.
